As a landscape artist, my intent is to share how I experience the environment I live in. The shoreline is my muse. Often my inspiration comes from my early evening walks along the beach just before the sun sets. Twilight is my most favorite and contemplative time of day and is a recurring subject in many of my paintings. The intersection of land, sea and sky, the ephemeral quality of light and textures of the marsh grasses, the seasonal changes are images I want to give life to on canvas.

I paint in both oil and pastel and frequently paint the same scene in both mediums. I often paint a scene in pastel or gouache first as a study for a larger oil painting. Occasionally I paint plein air but I prefer to work in my studio using my photographs and memory as a starting point and from there, the paintings develop in unexpected ways and take on their own life. My landscapes are not about replicating an image but conveying what interests me most whether it be the light, texture, atmosphere or mood, it's finding the essence of that scene and sharing what I found to be so captivating.  My hope is the viewer experiences that sensation when an image strikes a chord and their own memories are revived.
